Won’t Withdraw From PM SHRI: Kerala CM
The panel will examine conditions for the Union school scheme as Kerala seeks to protect curriculum autonomy and unlock about ₹1,100 crore in central funds.
- On Wednesday, the Kerala Cabinet formed a four-member sub-committee to study implementing the Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India scheme, Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan announced in Thiruvananthapuram.
- Satheesan stated the state government is "forced to" continue the project because the previous Left Democratic Front administration had already signed the agreement and received money from the Union government.
- Kerala has received ₹207 crore of blocked funds, yet the state insists on conditions: "The State is the competent authority to devise the curriculum in Kerala schools," Satheesan said.
- Ministers N. Samsudheen, Roji M. John, P.C. Vishnunadh, and M. Liju will comprise the sub-committee, tasked with drafting communication to the Union government to protect state rights.
- Despite ideological objections to the National Education Policy 2020, the government balances fiscal necessity with curriculum autonomy, following Satheesan's consultations with other non-BJP States on the scheme's implementation.
