AVON, Ohio — Nearly 40 dogs, sheep and goats were seized from a home in Avon in what humane investigators say were “wholly unacceptable” conditions.A total of 15 sheep, 13 dogs, eight goats and a cat were taken from the property, according to a news release from the Friendship Animal Protective League. One goat died from “severe” barber’s pole worm infestation, the release says.

Humane World for Animals, an international animal protection organization, is championing a Kentucky bill that would require the owners of animals seized due to criminal investigations to pay the costs incurred by municipalities for the animals' care.
Last week, two ponies and a horse were confiscated from a pet dealer in the municipality of Drimmelen by the National Animal Welfare Inspection Service (LID). The animals were extremely thin, were fed little and inappropriate food, and had poor teeth. The horses were taken to an undisclosed shelter where they will receive proper care. The owner is responsible for all costs and could also receive a substantial penalty for neglecting his animals. …
