Keith Mitchell goes from wild start to first player with 4 straight even-par rounds at a US Open
Mitchell shot four straight even-par rounds, the first in U.S. Open history, and finished tied for fourth to earn a Masters invitation.
On Sunday, Keith Mitchell finished tied for fourth at the Open at Shinnecock Hills, becoming the first player in tournament history to record four consecutive rounds of even-par 70.
After earning his spot through a 36-hole qualifier in Georgia, the 34-year-old Mitchell began the tournament with a wild ride, stumbling to a 6-over 41 on his opening nine holes before recovering with a 29.
Mitchell finished with a total score of 280, tying for fourth after Scottie Scheffler failed to birdie his 18th hole. He spent much of the final round at even par, recovering from a bogey on the 17th.
This performance secured Mitchell invitations to next year's Open and the Masters. "I felt like I achieved a lot more," Mitchell said, reflecting on his best major finish.
The T-4 result marks Mitchell's best finish of the season, providing stability for a player previously uncertain of his schedule. "For me right now, a T-4 is a win," Mitchell said.
