UK's Starmer Promises to Be Bolder to Try to Rescue His Job
Starmer vowed to be bolder and avoid a leadership contest as three aides quit and more than 60 Labour MPs demanded his resignation.
On Monday, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer faced renewed pressure when three ministerial aides resigned and more than 60 Labour MPs publicly called for his resignation.
The revolt follows the Labour Party's worst local election results in more than three decades on May 7, fueling concerns that Starmer has been too timid tackling Britain's economic stagnation.
Former junior minister Catherine West told Reuters she received 80 responses supporting her demand that Starmer establish a timetable for his departure.
Rejecting resignation calls, Starmer pledged in a London speech on Monday that "incremental change won't cut it," vowing to govern with greater urgency.
Facing populist challenges from Reform UK and the Green Party, Starmer warned his party against internal division, cautioning that infighting could lead Britain down a "very dangerous" path.
