Kazakhstan President Tokayev Arrives in Pakistan on First State Visit

President Tokayev will receive Pakistan's highest civilian award and finalize eight education cooperation agreements during the visit, aiming to expand trade and regional connectivity.

  • On Tuesday, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev arrived in Pakistan and was received at Rawalpindi’s Nur Khan Base by President Zardari, Prime Minister Sharif, and Deputy Dar.
  • The Foreign Office said the visit provides Islamabad and Astana an opportunity to review bilateral relations and explore cooperation in trade, logistics, regional connectivity and people-to-people contacts.
  • A 21-gun salute marked Tokayev’s arrival, while Islamabad streets displayed Kazakhstan’s flag, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif posted on X that he was “delighted” to welcome him.
  • Eight MoUs were signed on Monday to deepen academic ties, and Pakistan’s President Zardari will confer the Nishan-i-Pakistan during the visit.
  • Continuity from a September action-plan visit signals sustained diplomatic momentum as both governments see the visit as a win-win, supporting Islamabad's aim as a land bridge.
