Karnataka assembly rejects Kasturirangan report on Western Ghats
The Karnataka Assembly has passed a resolution rejecting the K Kasturirangan report on Western Ghats conservation in its current form. The state government urged the Centre to address deficiencies, particularly concerning the inclusion of agricultural lands and human settlements in Environmentally Sensitive Areas (ESA) without proper physical surveys or livelihood support.
The Karnataka government, which has categorically rejected the Central Government's 7th draft notification on the Kasturi Rangan report, has formed a high-level committee headed by a retired judge and passed a unanimous resolution in the assembly seeking a one-year period for the physical survey. The state government's resolution on the report has also been supported by the opposition.
