The President responded to criticism of the project, including in sectors of government, and denied that its presentation had been a “step in the right direction”.
Government sectors also questioned José Antonio Kast's constitutional reform, considering that he gives excessive powers to the President and that some measures could weaken democratic controls.
Human Rights Watch called on Congress to reject the constitutional security reform of José Antonio Kast and warned that the new state of emergency would hand over dangerously broad powers to the President. “This is a dangerous usurpation of power,” said Juanita Goebertus.
