Denmark and Former Leicester Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel Retiring because of Shoulder Injury
The Denmark goalkeeper said surgeons advised him he should not expect to return to elite football after a shoulder injury.
Leicester City legend Kasper Schmeichel has confirmed his retirement from professional football after suffering a serious shoulder injury, stating he should not expect to return to elite football.
Schmeichel's injury originated over a year ago during a Denmark match against Portugal while forced to continue playing, then worsened in Celtic's Europa League defeat to VFB Stuttgart in February.
Over 479 appearances for Leicester City brought Schmeichel a Premier League title in 2016, while his 120 international caps included a European Championship semi-final at Wembley and World Cup debut against Peru.
Surgeons advised Schmeichel he could not return to elite football after consulting on his shoulder; he will attend Leicester City's 5000 anniversary match this Saturday at 2pm kick-off, although unable to play.
Denmark's missed World Cup playoff qualification after Schmeichel's injury confirmation prompted the Danish Football Association to honor his 120-cap career, spanning from debut in Skopje to European Championship semi-finals at Wembley.
Danish goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has announced that he has decided to end his football career because he has not sufficiently recovered from a serious shoulder injury.
