- On Saturday, Rajya Sabha Member Kamal Haasan met Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and submitted six key demands aimed at revitalizing the struggling Tamil film industry.
- Haasan urged the Chief Minister to abolish the 4% Local Body Entertainment Tax and form an anti-piracy unit to strengthen industry revenues. He also proposed five daily theatre screenings and an eight-week exclusive theater release window.
- Beyond cinema, Haasan requested a state-wide mission to eradicate manual scavenging using robotics and modern technology. He also proposed establishing libraries and skill development centers across all 12,525 village panchayats in Tamil Nadu.
- Posting on X, Haasan described the meeting as inspiring and noted that Vijay shared his vision for the state. "The humility and affection he displayed during the meeting filled me with pride," Haasan wrote.
- This meeting followed Haasan's recent advisory to the Indian film industry urging practical and sustainable production practices. He linked these recommendations to global economic pressures, including rising fuel and energy costs.
