Railroaders Across B.C. Continue 11-Week Strike as Union Rejects CPKC Offer
Union members voted 256 to 31 against the railway’s latest offer as talks continue over wages, expenses, and scheduling.
- On Friday, Aug. 14, IBEW members in the signal and communications department rejected CPKC's latest contract offer, with 256 of 287 voting members voting against the proposal.
- The 11-week strike began May 31, 2026, as 300 members walked off the job between Vancouver and Montreal to protest CPKC's wages, demanding schedules, and on-call obligations.
- "Our members have spoken with an unmistakably clear voice," said Jason Sommer, IBEW System Council No. senior general chairman, adding the result confirms members remain united in pursuing a fair collective agreement.
- CPKC spokesperson Terry Cunha told Black Press Media on Friday that rail operations "remains unchanged" 11 weeks into the work stoppage as contingency plans provide service across the network.
- While the strike continues, CPKC is relocating 123 Revelstoke railroaders to Kamloops this summer to mitigate housing, cost-of-living, and staff retention challenges.
