The flag had been raised on Saturday in front of the city hall as part of a festival on the situation in Palestine. The prefect had then announced that he would refer the matter to the administrative court.
The mayor of the commune, Abdelkader Lahmar, declared that there was "no question of picking up the flag (...) pending judgment at the bottom".
Abdelkader Lahmar asserts that there is "no question" of withdrawing the flag immediately and envisages an appeal to the Council of State.
Seized by the Prefect of the Rhône Étienne Guyot, the administrative justice charged, Wednesday 8 July, to the mayor of Vaulx-en-Velin (Rhône) to withdraw the Palestinian flag installed on his pediment. Faced with the urgency of denouncing the genocide committed in Gaza, the unsubstantiated mayor Abdelkader Lahmar replied that "there is no question of picking up the flag immediately".
