Prosecutor seeks dismissal in French government Covid response probe

France’s prosecutor general has requested the dismissal of a case investigating three former government officials’ handling of the Covid-19 pandemic, including former French prime minister Edouard Philippe who is a contender in the 2027 presidential elections.

Attorney General Rémy Heitz considers that "many initiatives have been taken by the government to combat the pandemic" starting in February 2020.

The prospect of a trial is far removed for these politicians, although it is now up to the CJR's inquiry committee to decide.
