Just make it happen': Single mom of 7 graduates from college
Kathryn Scott balanced night work at UPS and school to join nearly 3,000 graduates in Stanislaus State’s Class of 2026.
On Tuesday, Kathryn Scott graduated from Stanislaus State University with a Bachelor of Social Science degree as a single mother of 7, joining nearly 3,000 graduates at the university's 66th commencement ceremonies.
Scott balanced her education with full-time work, taking graveyard shifts in management at UPS while attending classes during the day to complete her degree.
The graduating class ranges from 19 to 77 years old, with many first-generation college students representing communities across California and countries including Mexico, India, Korea, Bangladesh and Croatia.
Scott urged single mothers to pursue their goals, stating "it's very possible to make your dreams come true," while parent Idriss Camara expressed pride in his son's graduation Tuesday, saying "I feel special right now there's no price to it."
Commencement ceremonies continue through Friday with separate events for each college beginning at 8 a.m., celebrating nearly 3,000 graduates and 273 credential candidates across the university's diverse academic programs.
