'Just in shock': 13-year-old golfing phenom wins golf title in B.C. with playoff ace
Bentley Hoogerdyk won the Bear Mountain club championship for the second straight year after an ace in the playoff sealed a 36-hole tie.
- On Sunday, August 16, 13-year-old Bentley Hoogerdyk won his second straight Bear Mountain Golf Club Championship with a hole-in-one during a playoff on the 10th hole.
- Hoogerdyk and Fraser Mackie entered the playoff tied at nine-over-par after 36 holes, with Mackie forcing sudden-death by carding three birdies over the final five holes.
- Stepping up with an eight-iron on the 129-yard hole, Hoogerdyk aimed to attack the pin. "I was just in shock because it was only my first hole-in-one in a tournament," Hoogerdyk said.
- The victory marked a back-to-back title for Hoogerdyk in a field open to golfers of all ages; Tyler Hoogerdyk confirmed the ball was in the cup.
- Hoogerdyk earned a berth in the third stage of the Drive, Chip & Putt competition at Pebble Beach after finishing second among 14 competitors in DuPont, Wash., with events continuing in September.
