Jury Duty Scam Reported in Dearborn Co

Summary by WRBI Radio
(Dearborn County, IN) – The Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office says a jury duty-related scam is making the rounds. Deputies have received reports of a caller who claims the recipient failed to report for jury duty and that a federal warrant has been issued for their arrest. The caller then says the warrant can be resolved if a payment is made. Law enforcement agencies and courts do not demand payment over the phone to resolve warrants, jury duty issues, or other legal matters. The sheriff’s office says scammers often use fear and urgency to pressure victims into making immediate payments. If you receive one of these calls, do not provide any personal or financial information, or send money or purchase gift cards; hang up immediately, and report the call to your local law enforcement agency.
