Christa Deguchi (30), a native of Nagano Prefecture who won the gold medal in the women's 57kg judo event at the Paris Olympics as a member of the Canadian judo team, held a press conference in Tokyo on the 24th and announced her retirement. "I was able to win the Olympics, and more than anything, I am happy that I was able to retire from active competition of my own volition."
