Ex-LA County Sheriff’s Deputy Gets 1 Year in Prison for False Search Warrant Application

- Around 2021, Rodriguez began working as a security guard for a private company owned by colleague Eric Chase Saavedra while still an active LASD deputy, earning cash payments from a wealthy woman seeking to locate her estranged husband.
- In July 2022, Rodriguez falsely claimed in a Los Angeles Superior Court affidavit that the husband's cellphone was connected to a robbery investigation in Cudahy; he obtained GPS data showing the man was in Utah.
- After Rodriguez shared the location data with Saavedra, accomplices placed a tracking device on the victim's vehicle and sent threatening messages. Prosecutors called the conduct a "calculated abuse of authority" carried out with full awareness.
- The case is part of a wider investigation into cryptocurrency businessman Adam Iza and former deputies acting as his enforcers; Iza and Saavedra await sentencing while the LASD condemned the actions as violating department values.
