Paris unveils mural of Josephine Baker to honor her legacy
NORTHEAST PARIS, FRANCE, JUL 19 – The mural honors Baker’s legacy of anti-racism and civil rights activism, highlighting her adoption of 12 children as a symbol of unity, spanning over 200 square meters, artist FKDL said.
- On Saturday, July 19, 2025, FKDL unveiled a Josephine Baker mural in northeast Paris, honoring her legacy during a street art festival.
- As a symbol of anti-racism, Baker adopted a dozen children from around the world, calling them her `rainbow tribe` and what Brian Baker described as `a little United Nations`.
- The Paris Colors Ourq association, designed to symbolize freedom and resistance, created a mural spanning over 200 square meters in northeast Paris.
- At the unveiling, Brian Baker told the Associated Press, `I feel moved and I feel happy`, and one of the 12 children she adopted was present.
