Joplin police say officer let go following misuse of city's license plate reader system

Joplin Police said Saturday morning that an officer is no longer employed as the result of an ongoing internal investigation that determined there had been misuse of the city’s license plate reader system.

In December of 2025, the Joplin Police Department became aware of a possible policy violation by one of its personnel regarding the improper use of a departmental resource, specifically, the Flock license plate reader (LPR) system.
