John Torode responds to MasterChef sacking
UNITED KINGDOM, JUL 16 – John Torode denies using racist language despite an independent review upholding the claim; he plans legal action against the BBC for unfair dismissal, sources say.
- This past week, Banijay UK and the BBC announced John Torode’s contract will not be renewed, noting his tenure on MasterChef since 2005.
- After a seven-month probe, the Lewis Silkin inquiry examined allegations dating back to 2018 or 2019, finding 45 of 83 claims substantiated, including one for racist language.
- A BBC spokesperson said the allegation involved `an extremely offensive racist term` in the workplace, and John Torode said, `I repeat that I have no recollection of what I'm accused of`.
- The Mirror reports that John Torode is preparing a lawsuit, and a source told The Mirror he insists there is no proof of his comment and that he is determined to clear his name.
- According to PA Media, Gregg Wallace was also let go, and the future of the programme is now under significant threat.
