John Harbaugh considers his first Giants rookie minicamp a rehearsal more than a competition
Harbaugh said the session was designed to teach rookies the system before organized team activities and training camp, with physical contact kept to a minimum.
New York Giants coach John Harbaugh characterized the two-day rookie minicamp as a "rehearsal type of camp" rather than a competition, with sessions concluding Saturday.
With the season more than four months away, Harbaugh is taking a deliberate approach, drawing on his Super Bowl win and 12 playoff appearances with Baltimore.
Rookie Arvell Reese impressed coaches with assignment diligence, while Colton Hood recorded a standout interception. Undrafted free agent Dominic Zvada showcased his "big for a kicker" leg.
A kicking competition between Zvada, Ben Sauls, and Jason Sanders will spice up the coming months. Harbaugh remains in contact with 33-year-old Odell Beckham, though no imminent contract has materialized.
True competition arrives later as veterans join for organized team activities and mandatory minicamp. Training camp begins in late July at The Greenbrier in West Virginia.
