Joe Ryan pitches off mound as Twins righty’s road to recovery continues
Joe Ryan threw about 25 pitches, mostly fastballs, as he begins building toward a return from a strained left glute.
On Tuesday, Twins pitcher Joe Ryan threw a mound session at Target Field, marking a significant milestone in his recovery from a strained left glute muscle that has sidelined him for nearly two weeks.
Twins manager Derek Shelton noted Ryan threw 25 fastballs during the session, appearing "free and easy" while moving well. The team plans to mix in breaking balls as Ryan progresses toward returning.
Ryan last pitched on August 4 in an 8-2 loss in Kansas City, his third consecutive loss in a start. He said the injury made it feel like he was "pitching underwater."
Kody Clemens has become a valuable tool for the Twins, entering Tuesday's game as the only major leaguer to log 20 or more appearances at four different positions this season.
Entering Tuesday's game, Clemens provided offensive depth with 21 home runs, trailing only Byron Buxton who leads the Twins with 25. His versatility and production make him a crucial piece for the team.
