Now that the first talks on a future budget have been held, it has become clear that the minority cabinet and opposition party Pro have not yet moved any closer together. According to Jesse Klaver, party leader of Pro, there was still ‘no movement’ to be seen from Prime Minister Jetten and his Deputy Prime Ministers Yeşilgöz and Van den Brink, he told political reporter Michiel Jurrjens.
According to left-wing leader Klaver, an initial meeting between Pro and the cabinet regarding the budget yielded no results. "There is no movement towards us," he grumbles after a meeting with Prime Minister Jetten and the Deputy Prime Ministers.
The minority cabinet will speak with the opposition over the next two weeks about the budget for Prinsjesdag. The deadline seems clear. Yet, it could very well turn out to be merely the start of months of negotiations.
PRO leader Jesse Klaver believes that the budget negotiations between his party and the cabinet will be "very complicated." He wants the proposed cuts to social security taken off the table, but also acknowledges that the VVD, for example, takes a very different stance. "But this is our position," he said ahead of his meeting with Prime Minister Rob Jetten and Deputy Prime Ministers Dilan Yeşilgöz (VVD) and Bart van den Brink (CDA).
