United Airlines plans to return to JFK — again — in new partnership with JetBlue

  • On Thursday, the two carriers revealed the Blue Sky partnership, which plans to bring United back to JFK Airport by utilizing slots provided by JetBlue.
  • United left JFK in 2015, briefly returned in 2021 but exited again in 2022 due to inability to secure longer-term slots before this deal.
  • Blue Sky allows the airlines to sell each other's tickets and offers reciprocal frequent flyer benefits such as priority boarding and free baggage.
  • Under the agreement, United can operate up to seven daily round trips from JFK starting as early as 2027, while JetBlue receives eight slots at Newark.
  • The partnership aims to increase competition and expand options for travelers, with CEOs calling it a customer-focused collaboration pending regulatory approval.
