RIPLEY, Miss. (EYT) — A mistrial has been declared in the capital murder trial of Jeffrey Spence, the former Jefferson County man accused of killing his daughter’s boyfriend, Kirby Carpenter, during a robbery in Tippah County, Mississippi. Circuit Judge Kelly Luther declared the mistrial after the jury reported it was deadlocked at a six-to-six split, despite more than four hours of additional deliberations. Spence remains in custody.
