Jason Day Pulls Out of US Open with Back Problems
On Thursday, Jason Day withdrew from the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills after 10 holes due to a back injury, ending his tournament appearance at the major championship.
Day has dealt with chronic back pain throughout his professional career; he was visibly wincing while warming up on the driving range before the round began.
Shooting 7 over par across his 10 holes, Day left the course in a golf cart with caddie Luke Reardon after grimacing on the 14th hole.
The 2015 PGA Championship winner has struggled recently, missing the cut at the Memorial tournament two weeks ago after finishing 12th at the Masters earlier this season.
A two-time U.S. Open runner-up in 2011 and 2013, Day currently ranks 47th in the world despite his recent form struggles and persistent health challenges.
