TOKYO - The leader of Japan's main opposition Center Reform Alliance (CRA) announced Wednesday that the party will close its doors. Junya Ogawa made the announcement at a news conference, ending eight months of efforts to create an effective political counterweight to Prime Minister Sanae Takachiho's Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), AFP reported.

The centrist reform alliance was formed by merging two opposition parties, but it won only 49 seats in the February elections. The ruling LDP, on the other hand, has significantly strengthened.
