On Sunday, Okinawa Prefectural Police arrested Marine Devin Jacob Ballard, assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, on suspicion of robbing and murdering Anna Yagi, 39, at the Naminoue Crystal Hotel in Naha early Saturday.

Ballard has denied the allegations, Police said, with the Marine assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma according to the Okinawa Prefectural Police.
Japan delivered a "strong protest" to the United States on Sunday, while Embassy Tokyo stated it is "communicating and cooperating with the Government of Japan and local authorities."
Spokesman Tyler Thomas wrote Sunday that The Marine Corps is "actively cooperating with Japanese authorities in response to allegations of serious criminal actions," with the suspect remaining in Japanese custody.
