- Police allege Ballard stole Yagi's wallet and an additional item between 2:10 a.m. and 4:17 a.m. Saturday, though the circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.
- Ballard has denied the allegations, Police said, with the Marine assigned to Marine Corps Air Station Futenma according to the Okinawa Prefectural Police.
- Japan delivered a "strong protest" to the United States on Sunday, while Embassy Tokyo stated it is "communicating and cooperating with the Government of Japan and local authorities."
- Spokesman Tyler Thomas wrote Sunday that The Marine Corps is "actively cooperating with Japanese authorities in response to allegations of serious criminal actions," with the suspect remaining in Japanese custody.
