Fiji Appoint Ex-Springboks Boss White as Coach Ahead of World Cup
White, 62, brings World Cup-winning experience and two World Rugby Coach of the Year awards to Fiji’s campaign in Australia.
- On Tuesday, the Fiji Rugby Union announced Jake White as the new FIJI Water Flying Fijians Head Coach, selecting him from 31 applicants to lead the team into next year's tournament in Australia.
- White replaces Senirusi Seruvakula, who served on an interim basis since April; the new coach brings a distinguished record, having guided South Africa to the 2007 Rugby World Cup and secured the 2004 Tri Nations title.
- Aiming to combine "uniquely Fijian strengths" with structural discipline, White plans to maintain the team's fearless identity while improving tactical execution and consistent performance standards.
- His first assignment is a historic centenary Test against Japan in Tokyo on October 24, marking 100 years of the Japan Rugby Football Union, followed by the November Nations Championship in Europe.
- Looking toward Rugby World Cup 2027, White will face his former team when Fiji plays South Africa in a September warm-up match on the NSW Central Coast, establishing competitive standards.
