The diplomas of jailed İstanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and 27 others were removed from Turkey’s national higher education database after İstanbul University ruled their transfers to the school in 1990 were irregular, the Euronews Turkish edition reported.
Ekrem İmamoğlu responded to questions from international publication Bloomberg. İmamoğlu said he was prepared to support another candidate if he were prevented from running for office.
Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was arrested as part of the corruption investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, stated that he could support an "alternative candidate" if he is not able to run.
İmamoğlu will support another candidate if he cannot run: If my candidacy is blocked, another name will come forward and continue our vision with the same determination.
