More than 2,400 Extra Hours of Police Patrols in Anti-Social Behaviour Hotspots
- On June 30, the North Wales police and crime commissioners visited Pwllheli to kick off the summer campaign aimed at improving community safety, supported by the UK Government.
- The initiative responds to a sharp increase in shop theft, pickpocketing doubling since late 2022, and record retail crime impacting over 500 towns across England and Wales.
- The campaign features visible patrols, targeted enforcement against antisocial behaviour, youth engagement, and over £66 million hotspot policing funding this year to support local partners.
- Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds stated that their strategy is supporting the environment needed for local British high streets to prosper, while Boots’ Anthony Hemmerdinger condemned retail abuse as unacceptable.
- The initiative aims to restore confidence in policing by deploying 13,000 additional officers and ending unpunished town centre crime through coordinated local action plans until September 30.
