K9 Roam was stabbed multiple times by a barricaded suspect during a domestic violence response and had to have a leg amputated, officials said.
- On Thursday, K9 Roam was stabbed multiple times during a Tactical Enforcement Unit operation at a home in the 7400 block of Gorgeted Quail Grove.
- Police were responding to a protection-order violation that led to TEU and K9 personnel confronting 37-year-old Bryant, who barricaded himself inside and refused to surrender.
- Emergency vets at Animal ER Care treated Roam, who suffered cuts to his head, neck, abdomen and left hind leg requiring amputation after being transported Wednesday.
- The El Paso County District Attorney Michael Allen said Bryant could face a Class 4 felony and prison time if the dog dies, as CSPD investigates attempted killing of a police service animal.
- Roam was only 18 months old and ineligible for a stab vest until 20 months, and the Police Foundation of Colorado Springs said Thursday he briefly lifted his head while vets said the next 24 hours remained critical.
