BAE Systems to Support Airborne Electronic Attack Capabilities for Italy
ITALY, JUL 21 – Italy becomes first international buyer of the EA-37B Compass Call system, acquiring two aircraft for $300 million to enhance long-range electronic attack and jamming capabilities.
- BAE Systems received a $12 million contract on July 21, 2025, from L3Harris to modify two Gulfstream G550 aircraft into electronic attack platforms for Italy.
- This followed U.S. State Department approval in October 2024 of a $680 million Foreign Military Sale for Italy to acquire EA-37B Compass Call aircraft and associated systems.
- The upgraded G550 aircraft will be equipped with cutting-edge electronic attack capabilities designed to deliver long-range jamming, interfere with enemy communications, and maintain compatibility with U.S. Air Force standards.
- Cory Casalegno, director at BAE Systems, highlighted that the ongoing modification efforts are essential for enabling enhanced electronic attack systems to support the Italian Air Force.
- These aircraft will enhance Italy's airborne electronic attack capacity, making it one of the few to operate combat-proven EA technology and strengthening allied interoperability.
