On 22 and 23 March 2026, the Italian voters rejected, by 54% of the vote for the no against 46% for the yes, the draft constitutional reform of the judiciary led by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni. With a participation close to 60%, an exceptionally high rate for this type of election, the defeat is clear for the government. It constitutes the first major electoral setback of the leader and her coalition which came to power in 2022.
