On January 3, Italy established an exclusive economic zone in the Adriatic Sea, following Croatia, which declared an exclusive economic zone in 2021. This is not expected to affect Slovenian interests, and the fishing quota remains the same.
Italy has established an exclusive economic zone in the Adriatic Sea. Since Croatia did the same in 2021, there are no longer any international waters in the Adriatic. Slovenia has proposed a meeting of the foreign ministers of Slovenia, Italy and Croatia, the Foreign Ministry explained.
After the Italian exclusive economic zone came into force in the Adriatic on Saturday, Slovenian fishermen do not perceive any problems in their work. It is positive that entry into the Adriatic Sea area is now no longer possible for larger fishing vessels from third countries, says fisherman Matjaž Radin, who sees the advantages of the common European fisheries policy.
After Croatia declared an exclusive economic zone in the Adriatic Sea in 2021, Italy did the same a few days ago. Slovenia therefore proposed a meeting of the foreign ministers of Slovenia, Italy, and Croatia.
