INDIA, AUG 10 – ISRO will launch a 6,500 kg US-built satellite using an Indian launcher, marking a milestone in space collaboration and technology advancement, ISRO said.
- On Sunday, ISRO announced it will launch a 6,500 kg US-built communication satellite using an indigenous launcher from Indian soil in the coming months.
- ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan traced the programme's start to November 21, 1963, when the US donated a small rocket, marking India’s technological gap at the time.
- On July 30, 2025, ISRO launched the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar mission carrying the world’s costliest satellite, with NASA praising the precision launch, Narayanan noted.
- Highlighting global reach, ISRO noted that from having no satellite technology 50 years ago, it has launched 433 satellites for 34 countries.
- Looking ahead, ISRO has 56 satellites orbiting Earth, with plans to triple that number over the next 2-3 years.
