Israeli strike severs last bridge linking southern Lebanon to rest of country, Lebanese security official says
The strike severed a key supply line to southern Lebanon as Israeli attacks on infrastructure continue, Lebanese officials said.
- On Thursday, an Israeli strike destroyed the last bridge over the Litani River into southern Lebanon, severing almost a tenth of the country from the rest after earlier crossings were hit.
- The Israeli military declared the area south of the Litani a "no-go zone for Hezbollah operatives," reflecting Israel's aim to control a swath of territory about 30 kilometres north of its border.
- Israeli attacks have killed more than 2,100 people and forced more than 1.2 million from their homes since March 2, while strikes on Wednesday killed four medical workers in Nabatiyeh.
- Lebanese President Joseph Aoun refused to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the near future, dealing a blow to U.S. efforts to expand communications between the hostile states.
