Israel Extends Detention of Palestinian Women’s National Football Player Halawani

- The Palestinian Football Association denounced the arrest, stating it is "not an isolated incident, it is part of a well-documented pattern of systematic targeting of Palestinian athletes, which continues without accountability."
- Israel's military also arrested former player Natalie Abu Diyeh and three other women in the West Bank on Tuesday, alleging they were suspected of "promoting terrorist activities and additional terrorist-related activities."
- Birzeit University condemned the arrests as "systematic policies targeting Palestinian education and students' right to continue their academic journey," while Bishop Imad Haddad of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land called for Abu Diyeh's release.
- The Palestinian Authority-affiliated Prisoners Club reports more than 9,400 Palestinians are in Israeli jails, including 89 women, among whom are three minors and three pregnant women.
