Indiana State Police Renew Push for Tips in 1988 LaGrange County Cold Case Murder

Police say hundreds of hours have gone into the cold case, and investigators believe someone still has information that could identify the killer.

  • Indiana State Police renewed efforts to identify who killed Evelyn Matchett, a 67-year-old widow found murdered in her home on February 4, 1988.
  • Matchett was killed at her Pretty Lake residence, located near the Michigan border, nearly 40 years ago. Investigators have poured hundreds of hours into the cold case without identifying her killer.
  • The cold case team believes someone still knows something about the killing. Despite 38 years of investigation, the perpetrator has remained unidentified.
  • "We are asking for anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward," ISP said, urging the public to bring closure to the LaGrange County community.
  • Investigators urge anyone with tips to contact them by phone at 260-403-2841 or email ISPCOLDCASE@isp.in.gov. Information, no matter how minor, could provide the breakthrough needed to solve this decades-old case.
