ISO launches public consultation on the world's first International Standard for net zero alignment today
The draft standard is open for 12 weeks and aims to give organizations globally consistent guidance for credible, verifiable net zero transition plans.
- On Wednesday, the International Organization for Standardization launched public consultation for the ISO Net Zero Aligned Organizations Standard , the world's first independently verifiable standard designed to support organizations in developing credible net zero transition plans.
- The British Standards Institution and ICONTEC jointly convened the international working group responsible for developing this standard, following almost two years of negotiations involving hundreds of global experts.
- National Standards Bodies in more than 170 countries will review the Draft International Standard during a 12-week consultation period, with national consensus positions due by early September.
- Noelia Garcia Nebra, Head of Sustainability and Partnerships at ISO, said the standard "helps organizations build credible transition plans while supporting resilience, innovation and long-term growth."
- This launch precedes London Climate Action Week, where ISO and BSI will convene stakeholders, as over 130 countries have committed to emissions targets increasing demand for verifiable transition strategies.
