Islander garners gold medal in USA Biolympiad National Finals
Li won gold after 12 days of testing and instruction, and she is one of four U.S. students headed to the International Biology Olympiad.
A Lakeside School student from Seattle earned a gold medal at the 12-day USA Biolympiad National Finals, qualifying for the 37th International Biology Olympiad in Vilnius, Lithuania.
The 20 finalists emerged from 12,808 registrants across 47 United States schools and 35 international schools, completing 10 days of high-level instruction followed by two days of testing.
During training at Harvard University, The Islander engaged in lab work and conceptual training, noting that meeting peers who are "really excited" has been fun.
Following an eight-day respite after the Harvard finals, the team will travel to Vilnius, Lithuania, where she will represent the United States at the international competition.
The Islander has gained research experience at University of Washington labs, describing the environment as "centered around basically teaching the next generation of scientists.
