Man Charged over Alleged Arson Attack on Dublin Mosque
Judge Michele Finan refused bail as Gardaí said the accused admitted trying to set the mosque on fire and would do it again.
On Wednesday, Judge Michele Finan denied bail for Saeid Khosroabadi, 41, charged with arson at the Al-Madinah Prayer Hall on Talbot Street, Dublin. Judge Finan refused jurisdiction, sending the case to the Circuit Court.
Garda Shane Costello presented CCTV evidence showing a male pouring accelerant on the mosque's front door before igniting it, causing extensive damage while occupants, including children, remained inside.
During his Garda interview, Khosroabadi allegedly claimed he hated Islam and called followers "dirty people," stating he was "disappointed" the mosque had not burned down after seeing reports of a fire in Galway.
Ongoing industrial action by solicitors forced the hearing to proceed without defense counsel; Solicitor Tracy Horan, who previously represented the accused, could not act due to the dispute over legal aid reforms.
Remanded in custody, the accused will appear at Cloverhill District Court on July 8th, while the Director of Public Prosecutions prepares a book of evidence for the Circuit Court's wider sentencing powers.
