In his re-election, independent former mayor Yoshitaka Nakayama (58) (endorsed by the Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito) won a one-on-one battle against independent newcomer Yoshiyuki Toita (55), a former city council member, and was re-elected for the fifth time.

[Ishigaki] The number of early voters in the Ishigaki mayoral election in Okinawa Prefecture was 12,562 (6,557 women, 6,005 men) over the six days up to the 16th. This is a decrease of 2,191 from the previous mayoral election. According to the city election commission, the number of voters on the day was 38,620 (19,526 men, 19,094 women). Voting on the 17th will be from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
