Michael Valgren (EF Education-EasyPost) is the winner of the fifth stage of the 61st edition of the Tyrrhenian to Adriatic cycle race. The Dane was the last of the eight escapees and held on to the finish line ahead of the favorites for the overall victory. The lead was taken by Mexican Isaac del Toro in second place. Primož Roglič was seventh, dropping to fourth overall.

Danish cyclist Michael Valgren won the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, his first victory in more than four years. The 34-year-old EF Education-EasyPost rider won after a solo breakaway, finishing the 184km race eleven seconds ahead of his two pursuers. Mexican Isaac Del Toro came in second, returning to the top of the standings.
