Danish cyclist Michael Valgren won the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico, his first victory in more than four years. The 34-year-old EF Education-EasyPost rider won after a solo breakaway, finishing the 184km race eleven seconds ahead of his two pursuers. Mexican Isaac Del Toro came in second, returning to the top of the standings.
