- Alexis Moser of Whittier, California, lost $5,500 after entering credentials into a fake invitation, while Alyssa Williamson in New York City had her account hijacked to spam contacts.
- Experts recommend contacting the supposed host directly before clicking links, enabling two-factor authentication on accounts, and keeping software updated to prevent compromise.
- Consumers can forward scam texts to 7726 or report phishing via ReportFraud, while Sincere Corporation CEO Douglas advises examining URLs closely for tampering signs.
