On June 30, the New York City Council approved a rezoning plan for Coney Island, paving the way for the proposed casino project. The move allows developers to demolish part of Bowery Street next to Luna Park and purchase air rights above existing buildings to build three high-rise buildings and two pedestrian bridges. The bill was ultimately passed with 36 votes in favor and 11 against.
