Free family insurance for spouses could soon be a thing of the past. According to reports, the federal government plans to abolish free protection – and replace it with a monthly compulsory levy.
The CSU chairman Söder has opposed to abolishing non-contributory co-insurance from non-working spouses in statutory health insurance. Media had reported on corresponding government plans.
The statutory health insurance companies fear a billion deficit for 2027. The Federal Government is therefore planning fundamental reforms. The focus now seems to be on the free co-insurance of spouses.
