TCL Sues Samsung for False Advertising over ‘Mini LED’ Televisions
TCL says Samsung’s M Model sets lack Mini LED technology and asks a court to block the labeling and award damages.
- On Monday, Irvine-based TCL North America sued Samsung Electronics America in Los Angeles federal court, alleging the company falsely marketed its M Model televisions as featuring advanced Mini LED technology when the sets lack that feature.
- TCL claims Samsung lacked a competitive Mini LED product, so it allegedly repackaged its standard Crystal UHD television as an M Model Mini LED to undercut TCL's genuine sets on price.
- Samsung's Mini LED sales nearly quadrupled in three months, as the lawsuit alleges the company 'took a cheap, non-Mini LED model from a recycled product line and peddled it to the public as a 'supreme' Mini LED model.'
- Samsung said in a statement it intends to vigorously defend itself and stands 'fully behind the quality and accuracy of our product descriptions,' while TCL asked the court to block the advertising and award damages.
- The lawsuit alleges Samsung's conduct 'has misled consumers and diverted sales from TCL's genuine Mini LED televisions,' arguing that consumers rely on manufacturers to present their products honestly regarding display technology.
