Irish charter flight set to take off from Oman later
The Irish Government is using a chartered flight to return citizens amid cancellations affecting 12 of 14 Middle East routes, including all Doha and Abu Dhabi services, daa said.
- Because of a 'highly challenging operational context', the flight from Muscat to Dublin was rescheduled to Saturday afternoon, according to Foreign Affairs Minister Helen McEntee.
- Daa warned that airspace constraints forced cancellations, with 12 of 14 Dublin–Middle East services called off amid escalating hostilities and suspended flights.
- Passengers were bused from the UAE on a six- to eight-hour transfer, with seats at €800 each, covered by the Department of Foreign Affairs for 300 vulnerable people including children and those with medical needs.
- The Irish Government expects further direct commercial options soon, with Emirates aiming for '100% of its network within the coming days', and consular teams have handled over 2,300 queries.
- There are about 24,000 Irish citizens registered with the Department of Foreign Affairs across the region, including an estimated 14,000 in Dubai, and officials warn an escalation could impede evacuation efforts despite past Covid-era repatriation operations.
